A classroom of Wisdom, Guidance and Understanding

Picture

Students are sponges for wisdom and guidance and will let you guide and mentor them if they trust and respect you. This takes time, patience, and dedication, and is worth every minute of it.
I ask my students to work on keeping their circle clean. Therefore, I must lead by example and work on my own life, both in and out of the classroom.

Our class has become a “Rites of Passage” for young men and women. It is a celebration of their passage into Adulthood.   One might ask:  What does Carpentry have to do with Building a Life?  A while back I asked myself:  What are employers looking for?  My answer was:  Someone who would work, when no one was around.  So, I believe my job as an Instructor is to ready young people for a career and a meaningful life!  Here is a simple truth of what Education can and should be about:  Turning out young people with Work Ethics!  We want to turn out young people that are honest, ethical, hard workers.
One of our class mantras is:  Sweep when no one is around, it builds Character.  When the boss, foreman, or teacher goes around the corner, I want my students to work because they have gone from boys to men, girls to women.  They have built Character and have learned the art of Work Ethics in a meaningful, positive, and productive way.  We are competing globally now and we need a hard working, ethical workforce.  These students have heard over and over again the importance of keeping your circle clean, not just because someone is asking you to, but because it is just the right thing to do and the doorway to a happy and productive life.
